Historic Designation

Oak Hills is proudly recognized as a historically designated area, highlighting its distinctive architectural character, cultural significance, and enduring contribution to the heritage of the region. This recognition reflects the careful planning and unique design elements that have been preserved throughout the years, making our neighborhood not only a beautiful place to live but also a meaningful part of local history.

The historic designation plays a vital role in preserving the integrity and charm of our neighborhood by guiding development and maintenance in a way that respects its original character. It also provides valuable opportunities for education about our community’s past and encourages stewardship among residents.

A Mid-Century Modern Historic District

On July 10, 2013, Oak Hills was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Park Service. This prestigious designation recognizes Oak Hills as a community of national significance in architectural and cultural history.

Oak Hills holds the distinction of being Oregon’s first mid-century modern historic district—and one of the youngest neighborhoods in the nation to receive this honor. Our unique design, cohesive planning, and enduring sense of community helped earn this rare recognition, reflecting the value of preserving modern American suburban heritage.
